Use Everyday Tools Open toolbox

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Vijay Kumar Singh

I publish and maintain Use Everyday Tools. I have worked in the IT industry for more than 20 years, and I hold this site to a simple standard: a tool should do what it says, say plainly where it stops, and keep your files on your own device.

Experience

More than two decades in IT teaches you which promises hold up in practice. A tool that works on a tidy sample but breaks on a real file is not finished, and a vague claim about security or privacy is worse than none. That is the approach behind every page here: describe what a tool actually does, test it on awkward input, and write the limitations next to the instructions rather than hiding them.

What I am responsible for

  • Which tools are published, and which are left out because they cannot be done well in a browser.
  • The wording of every limitation, privacy statement and how-to guide.
  • Reviewing and answering the messages sent through the contact page.
  • Correcting mistakes quickly, and updating the date on a page when it changes.

How the tools and guides are checked

Before a change is published, the affected tools are opened in a browser, run on synthetic test files and checked against the downloaded output, not just the preview. Page text is compared against what the tool really does, because stale instructions are one of the most common reasons a tool page misleads people. The testing approach page lists what is checked and, just as important, what is not claimed. The worked examples let you repeat a small set of those checks yourself.

Corrections policy

If you find a wrong instruction, an outdated statement, a broken tool or a result that does not match what the page says, please tell me through the contact page, with the page address and what you expected. Factual errors and broken behavior are fixed as soon as they are confirmed, and the page’s “updated” date changes when its content does. The changelog records notable changes.

What this site is not

These are general-purpose utilities and guides, not legal, financial, medical or compliance advice. Calculators give estimates based on the numbers you enter. For regulated or highly sensitive records, follow your organization’s own approved software and data-handling policy. Local processing reduces risk by keeping files on your device, but it is not a certification or a guarantee.
