About this tool

Use a daily reference rate to get a quick idea of what a price is worth in another currency. For the amount you will actually pay, replace the reference rate with the rate your bank or card quotes.

Common uses: Make quick travel, shopping, budgeting and invoice estimates using a daily reference rate or your own manual rate.

Practical example: Refresh the daily rate before a comparison, then replace it with a quoted bank or card rate when estimating the actual amount you will pay.

Important limitation: Reference rates are not live trading quotes and may exclude bank spreads, card fees and cash-exchange charges.

Only the selected currency codes are requested from the rate service; your amount never leaves your browser. Read the privacy information.

How it works

A daily reference rate for your currency pair is requested, then multiplied by your amount; you can also type your own rate.

Real-world uses

Reference rates versus the rate you pay

The rate shown is a daily reference rate, not a live trading quote. Banks, card networks and cash exchange desks add a margin and sometimes a fee, so the final cost is usually a little worse. For travel budgets, add two to three percent as a rough allowance, and check what your own bank charges.

If you have the exact rate on a quote or statement, type it into the Exchange rate field and the converted amount updates. That is the right way to compare two providers: convert the same amount at each provider’s rate and see which gives more.

Rates can be refreshed during the day, but the source updates daily, so very recent moves in volatile currencies may not show yet. The tool sends only the two currency codes to the rate service. The amount you enter stays in your browser.
