About this tool
Merging is the most common PDF job, and the one where uploading a file feels riskiest: invoices, signed forms and ID scans often travel together. This page does the merge inside your browser tab, so the finished file is built on your own device.
Common uses: Combine invoices, signed forms, scanned pages, reports and application documents into one ordered PDF.
Practical example: Add the files one at a time, move them into the required order, then download the merged copy with a descriptive filename.
Important limitation: The browser must hold the source and output documents in memory, so very large files may be limited by available device memory.
The PDFs are read and combined in this browser tab with a library served from this website; nothing is sent to a processing server. Read the privacy information.
How it works
The tool loads each PDF with a PDF library in your browser, copies every page into a new document in your chosen order and saves it as a new file.
Real-world uses
- Combining invoices and receipts into one submission
- Assembling a job application packet
- Joining scanned chapters into a single document
Before you merge: a three-minute checklist
Most merge problems are decided before you press the button. Check that every source file opens normally, because a damaged PDF will stop the whole batch. Rotate sideways scans and delete blank pages first (the Rotate and Delete Pages tools do that), since fixing pages after merging means re-merging.
Order matters more than people expect. Number your files 01, 02, 03 before adding them, then confirm the order in the list. After merging, scroll the result from the first page to the last. Look for pages that changed size, because mixing A4 and Letter pages is allowed but can look untidy when printed.
If the merged file is too large to email, run it through the PDF Compressor afterwards rather than compressing each source file separately; one pass on the final document is faster and easier to check.
Tips for better results
- Name source files 01, 02, 03 so they are easy to order when added.
- Merge after you have rotated or deleted unwanted pages, so you do not have to redo it.
- Large scans can exceed device memory; compress them first if the browser struggles.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the file order?
Yes. Use the reorder controls before merging; the final PDF follows the displayed order.
Are the original PDFs changed?
No. The tool creates a new merged file and leaves your source files untouched.
Are my files uploaded?
The PDFs are read and combined in this browser tab with a library served from this website; nothing is sent to a processing server.
Will bookmarks and links survive merging?
Page content is kept, but document-level features such as bookmarks and form logic from the sources may not carry over. Review the result.
Is there a limit on the number of files?
There is no fixed limit, but your device memory is the practical ceiling. Merge in batches for very large sets.
Why does my merged PDF look bigger than the sum of the originals?
Each source keeps its own fonts and images, so identical fonts embedded in several files are stored again. Run the result through the PDF Compressor to trim the duplication.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
Not directly. Unlock each file first with the Unlock PDF tool, using the password you were given, then merge the unprotected copies.
Does merging keep page sizes and orientation?
Yes. Pages are copied as they are, so a landscape page stays landscape. Use Rotate PDF or PDF Page Resize afterwards if you want a uniform layout.
