About this tool

Splitting a PDF usually means sending someone only the pages they need. The page-range box accepts the same notation as a print dialog, so you can pull out a chapter, a single signature page or every odd page in one step.

Common uses: Extract selected pages for sharing, archive individual chapters, separate a form section or create a smaller submission file.

Practical example: Use ranges such as 1-3, 6 or keywords like odd and even to choose pages. Select a combined PDF or separate files in a ZIP.

Important limitation: Page numbering starts at 1. Review the page count and extracted pages before sending the output.

Splitting happens in this browser tab; the PDF library is served from this website and the source file is never uploaded. Read the privacy information.

How it works

The pages you select are copied from the source PDF into new documents using a PDF library, so the original is never modified.

Real-world uses

Choosing between one combined file and separate pages

The two outputs solve different problems. A single PDF containing your selected pages is right when the recipient wants one document, for example pages 4 to 9 of a contract. A ZIP of separate one-page files is right when each page goes somewhere different, such as splitting a batch of scanned invoices so each can be filed on its own.

Page numbers always refer to the position in the file, starting at 1, which may differ from the numbers printed on the pages. If a report has a cover and roman-numeral front matter, page 1 in the tool is the cover. Open the PDF in a viewer first and note the position, not the printed label.

The original is never altered; the tool builds new documents from copies of the selected pages.

Tips for better results

Frequently asked questions

Can I extract non-consecutive pages?

Yes. Enter comma-separated pages and ranges such as 1-3, 6, 9-10.

Can I split every page into separate files?

Choose the separate-files option to download the extracted pages together in a ZIP.

Are my files uploaded?

Splitting happens in this browser tab; the PDF library is served from this website and the source file is never uploaded.

Does splitting change the original PDF?

No. A new file is created and the source stays untouched.

How do I extract only the even or odd pages?

Type odd or even in the page box instead of numbers. This is handy for manual double-sided scanning, where you scan fronts and backs as two separate batches.

Can I split a PDF into one file per page?

Yes. Select all pages and choose the separate-files output, and you receive a ZIP with one PDF for each page.

Will the split pages keep their links and bookmarks?

Page content and visible links are generally kept, but document-level bookmarks and form logic from the source may not carry over. Check the result before sending it on.
