About this tool
Sideways scans are usually a stack of pages that went through the scanner the wrong way. Pick the affected pages from the thumbnails (or use odd, even or a range), choose the angle, and download a copy that stays rotated in every viewer.
Common uses: Correct sideways scans, mixed portrait and landscape pages, phone photos and documents that need consistent orientation.
Practical example: Use the thumbnails to select the affected pages, choose 90, 180 or 270 degrees, then preview the output before sending it onward.
Important limitation: Rotation changes page orientation but does not improve a blurry scan or straighten content inside the page image.
Pages are previewed and rotated locally; the file is not uploaded. Read the privacy information.
How it works
The selected pages’ rotation property is changed, so the content is displayed at the new angle without being re-rendered.
Real-world uses
- Fixing scanned pages that came out sideways
- Rotating a landscape page in a portrait document
- Preparing pages before merging
Rotating without making things worse
The rotation is stored in the page itself, so it is permanent and applies in every viewer, unlike a temporary view rotation that resets when you close the file. The text and images are not re-rendered, which means there is no quality loss.
Mixed orientation is common after combining files. Rotate only the pages that are wrong, check them in the thumbnail grid, then download. If the content looks tilted by a few degrees rather than a quarter turn, rotation will not fix it; that needs a deskew in a scanning program.
When pages alternate (all the even pages are upside down because of double-sided scanning) the even-pages option fixes them in one action.
Tips for better results
- Rotate before merging so the combined file is consistent.
- Rotation changes the page flag; scanned content is not straightened.
- Select specific pages for mixed orientation scans.
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate only selected pages?
Yes. Select individual pages or use the all, odd, even or range controls for larger groups.
Will rotation change the PDF content?
It changes the page orientation in the new copy; your original PDF is not modified.
Are my files uploaded?
Pages are previewed and rotated locally; the file is not uploaded.
Can I rotate only some pages?
Yes. Select those pages and apply the rotation.
Is the rotation permanent?
It is saved in the new PDF. The original file is unchanged.
Which angle do I choose for a page that is lying on its side?
Choose 90 degrees if the top of the content points left and needs to turn clockwise, or 270 if it points right. The preview shows the result before you download.
Does rotating reduce quality?
No. Only the orientation property changes; the page content is not re-encoded.
